Tackling the closet
To prepare for the upcoming 2014 Beauty Awards I have two tasks…
1.    Research beauty “experts”, write bios about them to examine their credentials, and contact them for interviews/suggestions.
2.    Completely organize the fashion closet and sort through the bags designers have sent us this week.

So … the first task has been an absolute blast and I’m really excited about some of the experts we will get a chance to work with.

The second … Well, I’ve always had a secret obsession for organizing. (I guess if you’ve ever been over, it’s probably not that secret at all) So when Jennie  (our fashion editor) discussed organizing the fashion closet with me I was really excited about it. It’s now been two days since that time and my love affair has made a quick and bitter switch … organizing currently gets a huge thumbs down from me.

but so fun….
It has been raining non-stop yesterday and today. But  TODAY after work I met up with some other interns here in NY from BYU, we had dinner together, and then went to Serendipity!
If you haven’t ever seen the movie, Serendipity, I would highly recommend it. It is on my top-ten list of chick-flicks. Through the pouring rain, we made the trek and rode the subway to the Upper East Side, finally arriving at our destination!

What we ordered: "Frrrrozen" hot chocolate with salted carmel
AND the humble pie (peanut butter + graham cracker pie) chocolate-fudge and banana sundae!**
The trains we needed to get back to our stop were all closed from the station we were at so we had to make a little commute to another station down the street. This actually turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the night. Luckily, I had my rain boots and umbrella handy. We walked by all of the 5th Avenue shops with a view of the Chrysler Building and I loved every freezing second of it!!

GETTING HERE
After a week of being a bridesmaid in two weddings (one in LA), finals, packing and moving out of my apartment … I flew to NYC and started my internship!

After a near-death experience taxi ride from JFK (because every taxi experience is slightly life-risking) I have arrived at my new home, which happens to be a dorm. It’s like living in Helaman Halls again … but with boys down the hall ... and a pub in the basement! On another note, I have the best view out my window!

I met up with some friends and headed over to Columbus Circle for a fireside at the LDS temple. After the meeting we walked down the street for crepes. I totally had nostalgic-flashback to daily crepe runs in France--the best.

THE XO GROUP INC.

Today was the first day of my internship with the XO Group Inc.
And probably one of my favorite days, ever.

I have finally mastered the subway (and by that I mean I made it to work by myself without being mugged, having an emotional breakdown, or trailing closely behind my friends leading me every step of the way)

The XO offices are in the financial district on Broadway. I’m quite obsessed with architecture and immediately fell in love with the building. For those of you that have been in the Rockefeller building, it’s very similar.

Jennie Mah, is the fashion editor for XO…and my newest inspiration. Jennie gave me a tour of the office from the design boards and spreads, to the fashion closet and the kitchen packed with tea, whole foods snacks, andcereal—wait, was this place made for me?

The office is open, dominantly white, and complete with huge windows with views of several bridges and buildings. I already have a few favorite spots for views of the city, one being a window against my desk.
(Probably won't be appropriate to sneak my own pictures for a while but this is the kitchen space,
a little feel for the design)

For my first task, I picked out classic, romantic, and modern menswear  including cuff links, ties, shoes, glasses, pocket squares, and belts. If you have any insights on how men's glasses or belts can be romantic, please share...

Jennie and I went to lunch together. We walked to the ports and got Thai food at an underground restaurant. She gets married this summer at a château in France … watch out for her wedding in The Knot’s Real Weddings soon! When we got back I organized the fashion closet and went through gowns, suits, and shoes from multiple designers. The closet is like The Devil Wears Prada in real life.

I sat in on a production meeting with all of the editors including the editor-in-chief (we were totally wearing the same shoes, score). I was really inspired by the writing, design, and app ideas being discussed.

After work I met up with the BYU-Communications group at the Brooklyn Bridge where we ate Grimaldi’s pizza by the water. I love this city and really look forward to the next few months here!
