THE WEEKEND

friday

after my last day of work I met up with Alex at Culture for yogurt
just trying to squeeze as many of my favorite treats in before I leave!?

we walked to Washington Square Park & then to the Flat Iron District
WHERE ... I picked Stephen up from his work!

^^ listening to a local artist perform
S.P.A. looking FRESH TO DEATH!!!

We went to a LATE dinner with friends at Minetta Tavern,
best known for their killer steak burgers

Our reservation was at 10PM ... so we didn't eat until 10:40
which was a real challenge for me
but the burgers were worth the wait! everyone loved.

saturday

I started the day by running along the Hudson!
met Stephen for a workout &
 Juice Generation smoothies
(^^the real reason I ran up there

Later in the day we went to the top of the One World Trade Center
with some of our friends visiting from D.C.

It was the coolest experience!!

^^ on the 102nd floor

^^ "waddup new york"

my favorite part of the exhibit is the special effects &
videos they show from the elevator ride up on!

one of the videos was a time-lapse of what NY has looked like from when it was
discovered to today! It was amazing to be able to visual it all!

we walked along the water & through Brookfield Place,
which is a really cool new shopping center

at the end of the night, a big group of friends met at Vapiano for dinner!
a good way to end the summer of fun with everyone we've loved spending time with!!

my last week in the city

so sad my time here is coming to an end!!

like last summer, I've learned a lot from living in a big city,
from meeting new people, and from working in another field of business

WORK

this week I got to do some research for my boss at a bookstore ...
kind of a dream for a book lover like myself

^^ I have to admit ... Neither of these books have anything to do with wedding research
just a few books I grabbed for myself along the way

on my last day I brought in Sprinkles Cupcakes
I just love them & any excuse to share / taste all of the flavors!

my boss took a selfie with me as we were saying our goodbyes ...
he is so inspiring & beyond talented!
I feel really lucky to have been able to work with him
and kind of stoked about the shout-out ;)

NOT WORK

Kind of ditched my phone a little bit this week
BUT here are some shots of my (usual) wandering

^^ I kind of feel like this represents my experience this summer perfectly
proudly conquering piles of cookies  ice cream
what's new though?

^^ finding my favorite route home from work & sticking to it

^^ post-pilates class with Alex
something I will miss the very most, Juice Generation
their cashew baby with raspberries played a big role in my summer

(the big) GELATO, CENTRAL PARK,
TOAST & THE ROCK

FRIDAY

friday finally came!
and after work, stephen + I met up to celebrate
with gelato, what else?

^^ so this was mine. and it was maybe even better than seeing jimmy fallon?

salted caramel. speculous. peanut butter.
wow.

We walked through China Town & The Financial District

I almost got hit by a taxi ... but that's a whole 'nother story
& I'm happy to report that I'm still here!

SATURDAY

the wedding (see below)

SUNDAY

we went to the 9am family ward again
loved it a lot

family wards are a really refreshing thing after four years at BYU

after church we went to a small french bread shop, Little Collins

^^ smashed avocado toast is the BEST

we took it easy,
 walked around the park,
walked to The Rockefeller Center,
survived the heat,
& finished with late-night Chinese food

^^ The Plaza

 ^^ I wish I knew ...

A WEDDING!

Event days are a lot of work but they are also a lot of fun!

This Saturday the Matthew Robbins team designed & planned a wedding in Upstate NY at a rustic barn surrounded by lush fields and huge trees. It was so beautiful.

We drove through small towns with rich history,
including the home of Teddy Roosevelt!

The barn was nothing but bones when we got there!
Here's what it was turned it into ...

^^ the reception tables

^^ the entrance into the reception

^^ a little bar for the after-party

I have loved assisting the design and planning details of these weddings to create an absolute dream day for couples & their families!

weekday highs

to be honest, somedays I have to be really creative to come up with entertaining activities to do by myself on weeknights when Stephen works until midnight (or later).

I do a lot of wandering around neighborhoods ...
and try to stay out of stores to avoid spending every dollar I have

But there was a lot of good this week! Here are some highlights:

MONDAY

Monday was an especially fun day because my dad got tickets to see Jimmy Fallon

I took my friend / old roomie, Alex (aka A-OLP) along with me!
I now know why she was on dates every night of the week last year
SHE IS A GOOD TIME
we had so much fun

^^ our two seconds of fame with Jimmy!!

TUESDAY
 after work I wandered

^^ appreciating the art at the Fulton subway station

^^ TRIBECA

I'm telling you, TriBeCa is the greatest neighborhood.
Natalie & I are convinced that we know which apartment building is T-Swift's
(big deal)

^^ yogurt-obsessed & grateful to have a Red Mango just around the corner
peanut butter + oreo froyo. YES, PLEASE!

WEDNESDAY

I think work was long and maybe some laundry happened?

THURSDAY

Alex & I went on another girl-date
This time to ABC Kitchen

We LOVED it
We sat in these huge, velvet chairs that anyone would just dream of napping in!
Everything on their menu is farm to table and delicious!!

^^ the cutest little friend date!!

OK now the good part .... THE FOOD ...

We did what good friends do & ordered a few things to share

^^ avocado & roasted carrot salad with pine nuts

^^ goat cheese + spinach pizza on wheat

^^ salted caramel ice cream with caramel popcorn, chocolate fudge and homemade whip cream
WUUUUT. I know.

THE PARK, ROOFTOPS &
JERSEY BOYS

this weekend was SO GREAT.
mainly because stephen did NOT have to go into the office
(until mid-sunday)
which is HUGE

& I got to hang out with him!

Friday night we met at Toby's Estate, which is a coffee shop in the Flat Iron District that turns into a Strand bookstore, combined with Club Monaco ...
it's like some crazy-amazing marketing / business plan. The place is decorated BEAUTIFULLY; you feel like you could just stay there all day ...
eat. read. shop. repeat

^^all of the books are ones you want to plop right onto your coffee table / nightstand
I want every single one of them
^^ the cutest flower stand when you first walk into the bookshop

After the bookstore we walked over to the Chelsea Market for Italian food!
We shared tortellini and a veggie salad.
The tortellini was stuffed with pork and different cheeses, needless to say it was amazing.
The veggie salad could be forgotten about.

(also not pictured: "the best salted chocolate chip cookie in new york"
from The Bake Shop in Greenwich << I'm a sucker for a good cookie and feel the need to test the validity of all that claim this.
It wasn't true. However, still very good.)

SATURDAY

We walked around Central Park, the weather was so beautiful!

^^ there was a lot of trudging through bushes and climbing rocks (all in white pants, scary)

We went to an early dinner at Tavern 29 in midtown for dinner

^^ rooftop seating

I loved the stringing lights and view of surrounding skyscrapers.
The food did not disappoint either!

^^ sweet pork grilled cheese
black bean and quiona burger
balsamic-glazed sweet potato fries

And the best part of the night ...

Jersey Boys!!!

The music was SO GOOD. We LOVED.

^^ one more because I love it

weekday highs

SUNDAY

After church on Sunday, Natalie and I went to Communal on the UWS for brunch (at 4:30pm)

^^ a sunny shot with my roomies post-church

Stephen got off work later that evening and we walked along the ports to the Irish Gardens
And then back to his place!
Always so, so much walking

MONDAY

Pretty much every night the guys are working is a girls' night.
But on Monday night things were amped up ...

first: Maison Kayser for pastries / cookies
i.e. sugar

^^ chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie (bigger than my fists, put together)

and second: face masks
( + strawberries?)

So ... that was a wild night ...

TUESDAY

An early run to the flower market
followed by floral arrangements with our lead florist!

Sweetgreen always has THE longest lines in the world for lunch
But since everyone has been raving about it, I had to try it (food-fomo?)
I called and ordered ahead, which is definitely the ticket

 ^^ the harvest bowl
roasted sweet potatoes, grilled chicken, cherry tomatoes, slivered almonds, apples, goat cheese
whaaaat

WEDNESDAY

We had two design meetings at work this day
I LOVED them
The whole process from floral arrangements, designing the mock tables and meeting with clients to discuss every detail has been the highlight of my internship thus far

^^  I love new york

On Wednesday night a group of friends got together at Rosa's Mexicana for dinner
I think one of the best parts was having the guacamole station come to our table!
We were all cheering her on ... we may have been a little over-excited but when you know something good's coming your way, you've got to get into it!

^^ can we talk about these nachos???
