NORTH CAROLINA

China Town buses-- a really bad idea.
We decided to take the cheap route and ride a bus from China Town to Norfolk.
Although we purchased tickets ahead of time, the bus was overbooked and we didn’t make the cut.
(which I was not that mad about because it was the sketchiest bus with the sketchiest crowd)

 pre-bus struggles, so happy..so naive...

After some time with a few women that really struggled with speaking English and communicating with any degree of calmness. We were refunded (cha-ching) and figured out another ride… Only to be the Mormon 90’s boy-band star — Brett Brice of Jericho Road (now a whopping 38 years)

While waiting we had some time to kill. We celebrated our new success in Times Square, purchased Yankees hats (because you can’t leave NY without one), grabbed lunch and the best salted-caramel chocolate chunk cookie at Magnolia Bakery-- Seriously the best cookie I’ve had in NY so far

Finally, “Jericho” arrived sporting his Jericho Road band tee… really topped everything off.

WE MADE IT!

Saturday we woke up to ocean waves right outside the backyard, lush trees, and east coast mansions all around. I had no idea North Carolina was so spectacular.

A little background info… Duck beach is like a LDS mid-singles’ paradise. Every year over memorial weekend a group of about two-hundred single adults from all over come together for … a procrastinated EFY experience?? (Yikes) but also so much fun.

After drooling over every view, we headed to the beach.
Warm water, blue skies, NO seaweed, NO trashcans for that matter, the place was immaculate.

professional cooks prepared all of the meals and were amazing.

Throughout the night we ate dinner on the roof, danced our guts out on the beach, relaxed with new friends, and
sprinted away from the huge sand crabs crawling along the shores on the way home.

SUNDAY

Every year the nearby ward holds sacrament in a middle school to accommodate to the massive Duck-beach group ... One of the ward members was wearing a Duke polo to church so I'm pretty sure I've found my brother's new best friend

I've always been really good at gymnastics^

Over the course of the trip, we made ourselves known as the iiiinteeerrrnnnss
(que the low, slow (but excited!) pronunciation of “interns” here)
and therefore had to display our adolescence with matching American-flag tanks
(and celebrate the holiday!)

We played on the beach, off-roaded in pursuit of wild horses, rode beach cruisers, and ate dinner on the rooftop (again) while the sun set

Activities for the night included acoustic night
 ( … EFY round two)
where our new friend, "Jericho", performed-- we were totally his biggest groupies! then an in-house dance party

the american ballet
(MONDAY)

After work on Monday I met up with Liz to see the American Ballet Theatre at The Met Opera House.

Liz has become well-known among "the interns" for her luck in ticket wins!
she's won Broadway tickets three Fridays in a row…
SO when she told me she had two tickets from work to see the ballet I wasn’t surprised. However, I was surprised and more than excited when she invited me to be her plus one for the night!

70 blocks
(TUESDAY)

I love walking around this place. On Tuesday we walked 70 blocks from 59th street (beginning with a nutella crepe in hand) home to 125th.

& passed some iconic places on the way ...

Cafe Lalo-- where Meg Ryan waited for her mystery man, Tom Hanks, in You've Got Mail

 Columbia University

& the corner deli where Seinfield was filmed

the phillippines consulate & something to look forward to
(WEDNESDAY)

The Knot published its summer issue last week. Since then we’ve started work on the winter issue, which includes my main project--the beauty awards!

A highlight this week was receiving a calender invite for an appointment with Kate Spade and Kleinfield
I'm a huge Kate Spade fan & am really looking forward to these!

Today I walked past The New York Public Library, I'm really hoping I'll be able to leave work early enough to explore the inside of it before it closes for the day soon!

And tonight we went to a farewell party for the LDS Public Relations Rep. at the Philippines Embassy.
Followed by rice pudding at Rice to Riches (as seen on Hitch)
flavors shared: nutella, french toast, & caramel pecan
